3. Pont-à-Mousson
Following in the footsteps of the illustrious british artist JMW Turner in 1824 along the Moselle river, british artist Wayne Sleeth - exactly two centuries later - embarks stage by stage, étape par étape, on the same journey, sketching and painting watercolours on the way, from Meurthe-et-Moselle in France to Germany where the Moselle joins the Rhine at Coblenz.
Pont-à-Mousson, with its imposing Abbaye des Prémontrés on the edge of the Moselle river is more or less midway between the cities of Nancy and Metz, and so a perfect stop-off as the 'département' of Meurthe-et-Moselle becomes that of the Moselle.
I approached Pont-à-Mousson from all sides; the east, west from the Meuse, downstream to the south, and upstream from the north.
I also sketched from the city centre, looking left and right from the bridge.
